Promoting careers in care

Many people are unaware of the wide range of rewarding roles within adult social care and the positive impact they have on the lives of others. This is why we facilitate the I Care...Ambassadors initiative.

If you provide advice, training or support to people who are undecided about their future career direction, an I Care...Ambassador can add real insight to your work.

Who are I Care...Ambassadors?

I Care...Ambassadors are a national team of enthusiastic care workers who visit schools, colleges, job centres and other employment agencies to talk about what it’s like to work in social care.

Hearing from someone who is already working in care about why they love their job gives a powerful message. It helps to dispel some of the negative misconceptions about the sector and inspires others to consider a career in care.


I Care...Ambassadors can provide a range of tailored activities to support any type of careers and employment activity.

Ambassadors have a range of different skills and could deliver the following activities:

  • presentations
  • informal talks or discussions
  • interactive group activities
  • supporting an information stand at an event
  • supporting work experience opportunities
  • mentoring people who are new to social care
  • guided workplace visits
  • participation in publicity and media activities.

I Care...Ambassadors offer current, accurate information, which will help you to provide good careers and employment advice about working in social care to those who are undecided about their future careers direction.


The I Care...Ambassador search register helps you find the right ambassador to support your activity.

The online system has various search criteria, allowing you to customise your search by location, skills or experience.

Once a search has been submitted the register will produce a list of I Care...Ambassador services who can provide a local ambassador to meet your needs.

There is no fixed rate for commissioning an I Care...Ambassador. Some services may charge a fee to cover expenses and backfill of staff.

Services may negotiate non-financial benefits, such as agreeing training materials or meeting room hire in return for the ambassador contribution. Subject to sufficient resources, services may choose to fully fund an ambassador activity.

Please note we have no involvement in charging fees and receiving payments for I Care...Ambassador activity. All discussions and arrangements should be discussed directly with the service providing support.
