The ASYE for child and family services

First year in practice for child and family social workers

We can support you to provide the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) for newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) working in child and family social work.

The ASYE is a one year employer led induction programme which develops the skills knowledge and confidence of the NQSW.

It is assessed against the Knowledge and Skills for Social Workers for Child and Family social work (2014)

There are templates and case studies to help you understand how your NQSWs can be assessed.

We can also provide information about the development of the Approved Child and Family Practitioner assessment and accreditation system.

The FAQs will help to answer questions you may have about the ASYE. If you need more information you can email us at

Good practice examples of how other adult and child and family services are successfully implementing the ASYE are avaiable on Learn from Others website.

The assessment and accreditation of social workers

See the Department for Education's powerpoint giving the latest update on the progress of the assessment and accreditation of social workers (September 2016). They are hoping to visit as many social work network meetings across the country as possible over the autumn period.
