Individual Employers Resource File
Introduction
The documents and resources on this webpage were produced as part of a project that assisted 40 individual employers across Yorkshire and the Humber in the development of their knowledge and skills as managers and to support them to develop their workforce. The project ran from October 2009 to July 2010.
Individual employers are people who use services or carers that employ their own staff using direct payments, individual budgets or other funding.
The project report and its findings is the first document on this webpage
These resources were used to give information and to support individual employers on various issues they were experiencing. An important part of the success of the project was the peer support and shared learning that was experienced by the individual employers. Skills for Care want to continue this opportunity of peer support by sharing these resources.
If you have any other useful information or sources of support you would like to share to be included on this website please contact Zoe Thomas zoe.thomas@skillsforcare.org.uk. We will update the website as and when is necessary.

HM Government
The document set the scene for personalisation and self directed support. It had support from all political parties and told people how and why adult social care must be transformed.
The government told everyone involved in adult social care how it wanted the needs and aspirations of services users and unpaid carers to be central to any provision of social care. It laid out how control must be given back to people who use services.

Each section has a list of key questions and tasks, some 'essentials' and links to sources of help. The toolkit also includes templates for some of the most useful bits of paperwork you might need. This guide covers only the minimum knowledge you will need. You can find lots more useful information by following the links in each section.
People who already employer their own staff contributed to producing this toolkit.
