Welcome to the Neighbourhood Workforce Planning and Community Skills Development on-line learning community.
Skills for Care is working with a range of neighbourhood and community groups to develop evidence-based practice to influence and support workforce re-modelling that challenges and supports the social care workforce into working differently.
Only a footstep away outlines the benefits to social care of developing skills within communities. It also highlights the potential benefits of 'neighbourhood workforce planning', a way of assessing and measuring the skills present within a community. The report sets out the research that supports a local approach to increasing social capital through enabling skilled communities.
'Neighbourhood workforce planning' and 'community skills development' are models that can empower local people to understand how the skills they have can be enhanced and shared to ensure that those who need care and support in their neighbourhood can continue to be active and empowered local citizens.
Skills for Care, in partnership with local residents associations, neighbourhood groups, local communities, employers and commissioners, is leading the development of practical tools that support the implementation of neighbourhood workforce planning and community skills development through a number of 'early adopters'. These sites are helping us learn how to make sure that a neighbourhood approach to skills development has a meaningful impact on people's lives.
