National Minimum Data Set for Social Care (NMDS-SC): More information shared with the Care Quality Commission (CQC)

30 Indicators now in the Quality and Risk Profiles (QRP) based on NMDS-SC data

Joint statement between Skills for Care and Care Quality Commission - 21 March 2012

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is developing Quality and Risk Profiles (QRPs) for each regulated provider of adult social care services (including where services are provided in health settings). QRPs are being developed to enable CQC to assess the level of risk of a provider not meeting the essential standards and prompt front line regulatory activity where necessary.

As you will be aware, your NMDS-SC data submitted to Skills for Care can now be shared with CQC to minimise the amount of information they need from you as part of the compliance monitoring process. When you log in to NMDS-SC you will need to confirm that you are happy with this. You can check the permissions you have allowed by viewing your establishment details and 'editing' if necessary. To ensure the data CQC receives is accurate, you should check that the information you have entered into your NMDS-SC account is up to date. No individual is identifiable from any of the data shared with CQC.

Last year we reported that a first series of data items from NMDS-SC had been shared with CQC [see http://www.nmds-sc-online.org.uk/news/View.aspx?1067 ]. These were taken from the organisation level data of the NMDS-SC. CQC used these to develop 19 indicators that cover vacancies, leavers and turnover which appear in the staffing section of the QRP, against outcomes 13 and 14. Two further items of information that are based on this series are included in the background section of the QRP. A full list of these indicators is shown in table 1.

A new set of 11 indicators that are based on worker level data in NMDS-SC cover qualifications and training and they now appear in the QRPs against outcomes 12, 13 and 14. A full list of these indicators is shown in table 2. This now means there are 30 indicators based on NMDS-SC that CQC is including in its QRPs.

Skills for Care and CQC will regularly review the arrangements in place for sharing data between the two organisations and the indicators that have been developed.
