Information for partners

With changes in the economy and constraints on education and training funding, the choice of career can be daunting.

Working in social care offers both challenges and rewards. Many work opportunities are available regardless of age, previous experience, training and education.

Skills for Care, in partnership with the Department of Health, actively promotes social care apprenticeships. An apprenticeship offers a numbers of benefits including earning a salary whilst receiving training.

The apprenticeship programme is fast becoming one of today's preferred structured career routes. It addresses skills gaps, whilst creating employment opportunities across the social care sector.

The government is one of the driving forces behind apprenticeships and is making significant funding available to both public and private sector care organisations, which in turn creates greater opportunities for those looking for a career in care.

  • Skills for Care has developed a series of case studies where apprentices talk about why they decided to take on an apprenticeship and the huge job satisfaction they get.
  • There are also employer case studies where employers talk about the benefits to their businesses of employing highly motivated apprentices and how they can help offer quality support to the people who use their services.
  • Social care is a growing sector and one that offers increasing opportunities for progression. Skills for Care's career pathways e-tool lets users explore where an apprenticeship in health and social care can lead and see case studies from those who work in the sector.
