Working with Education and Training Providers
One strand in striving to achieve our vision is to work with organisations which provide education and training across the sector in order to develop partnership and understanding between providers, employers and current and future employees.
Government departments, in particular the Department of Health and the Department for Education and Skills, give the policy context in which Skills for Care operates, and we use these as the basis on which to work with all our partners to achieve the workforce which is needed in the adult social care sector.
The strategy for working with the education and training supply side falls into three major strands:
- Delivering quality education and training which is in line with employers' needs
- Balancing the agendas emerging from the Department for Education and Skills and the Department of Health
- Professionalising the adult social care workforce
Whilst these all overlap to some extent, the histories and traditions underpinning each necessitate a coordinated approach to developing the current and future workforce.
We will implement our strategy through:
- Developing the capacity and capability of the teaching workforce in order for them to move in the direction of travel of adult social care in England, and establish ways in which their provision can adapt to meet the identified need
- Identifying and building on current best practice in flexible and responsive delivery – including blended and e-learning provision, and the development of the New Standard for employer responsiveness and vocational excellence
- Enhancing the role of further education in developing a workforce which is reflexive and creative and not solely reactive
- Developing the 'market' amongst employers so that they feel supported in asking for, and can access, provision which meets their needs for their workforce
- Working with key organisations nationally, regionally and locally to ensure the smooth flow of funding for training and the maintenance of high quality provision
