migrant workers in adult social care in England: a review of available research
This 2009 review of available research and data on migrant workers in adult social care in England was commissioned by Skills for Care from Avista Consulting. The review found a general lack of hard data about workforce numbers, but a range of qualitative research to suggest that social care employers' views of recently-arrived overseas workers is very positive. survey of recruitment agencies supplying overseas workers to social care in England
In 2009 Skills for Care commissioned from Purple Market Research a survey of 307 recruitment agencies supplying staff, including care workers, nurses, occupational therapists and social workers, to social care operations. Most agencies saw the care sector as more heavily reliant on overseas workers than other sectors. In the short to medium term most agencies feel the use of overseas workers will increase, with those anticipating an increase outnumbering those expecting a decrease by two to one.
