NQSW Facilitator Development Programme 2011/12

The Skills for Care NQSW Facilitator Development Programme 2011/12 is being run on our behalf by Inter-Logics. The programme enables participants to develop an understanding of:

  • underlying ideas and principles about Action Learning and different forms that it can take
  • basic skills involved - particularly listening and questioning
  • a number of methods and techniques for running Action Learning sessions
  • issues involved in setting up Action Learning in organisations.

The following comments from participants in the Skills for Care NQSW Facilitator Development Programme 2010/11, confirm that Action Learning - enabling people to tackle problems and challenges by creating their own solutions - can be of great help in supporting NQSWs, as well as in other settings. We are therefore continuing to fund training in facilitation skills and techniques.

"I can see that there will be a lot of positive outcomes from using Action Learning in my practice and developing it

I can see lots of ways in which Action Learning can be used - with NQSWs of course and , with "fully qualified staff" and also in Team Planning days

it has been good to learn new approaches to learning and problem solving

I have been doing facilitation for a long time but never realised there were techniques that would enable me to do it better

My feelings have changed from "it's not for me" to "how this could be beneficial

This programme has made me want to rethink the way we deliver all our management development."

The programme leads to a Development Award from the Institute of Leadership and Management. This will also be accepted for Accreditation for Prior Learning with regards to the ILM's Level 5 Certificate in Action Learning Facilitation.

Each version will be available free of charge to people who are working with (or preparing to work with) NQSWs in Adult Services.

There will also be support for Action Learning sets for those who have already completed a facilitator training programme.
