Integrated Local Area Workforce Strategy (InLAWS)

Integrated local area workforce strategies - InLAWS is a Skills for Care and ADASS project established in 2009 with support from the Department of Health (DH) and other delivery partners.

The InLAWS project aims to develop effective ways to support Directors (DASS) and their teams with their workforce commissioning role across the local area and meet the challenges of Putting People First. It is providing a common methodology and practical tools designed to help DASS and their teams develop a skilled, capable and competent workforce to meet the challenges of Putting People First across their local area.

Practical tools

Practical tools are now available to help DASS and their teams when developing their InLAWS methodology

Products include case studies giving a  'flavour' of how some local authorities are using the InLAWS process, Guide to workforce planning for service providers and position statement guidance. For more information about the tools that are avaliable click here.

InLAWS Progression Days

Later this year Local Authorities will be invited to InLAWS progression days to help and support local authorities use the InLAWS methodology.

National Minimum Dataset for Social Care (NMDS-SC)

Having access to data about the workforce in your local area is critical when planning how you can provide services that will meet the needs of the people who use them. Skills for Care has developed the NMDS-SC to give you information about the current workforce in your local area. This provides a workforce profile which you can use to benchmark the current position and then help you to plan for the future. It is key to the InLAWS approach.
