Graduate Management Programme host organisation, wins big at the Skills for Care Accolades

Future Directions Accolades

Future Directions, who have recently hosted a graduate on our successful Graduate Management programme, have just received not one, but two Skills for Care Accolades.

They were successful in winning the ‘Most effective approach to leadership and management’ and ‘Most effective approach to integrated new models of care’ Skills for Care Accolades awards 2019. Future Directions provide personalised, social care services to people aged between 16 to 70+ who live in their own home.

They have also recently hosted a graduate on our successful Graduate Management Programme. Emily Paine started working as a Business Development Coordinator in January 2018 as part of the 12 month programme. She has become so indispensable that she is now a permanent member of the Future Directions team, even collecting one of the Accolades from no other than Anton Du Beke himself!

Speaking about her experience of the Graduate Management programme and her work with Future Directions, Emily said: “In my role I have been given a well-rounded and exciting experience in an innovative organisation. Future Directions developed a new role for me, which, along with a five-year career plan, will allow me to continue to learn and develop at a person-centred organisation that I am proud to work for.”

This focus on support and development was a key factor in their ‘Most effective approach to leadership and management’ Accolade win. Our judges said:

“Future Directions demonstrated they have great values. There are clear opportunities for aspiring leaders and they strongly support and invest in leaders and managers across the organisation. They have good systems in place for aspiring leaders including mentoring, coaching and acting up opportunities. Future Directions is committed to developing a talent pool to replace managers when needed.”

As a host organisation on our Graduate Management programme, Future Directions have shown this commitment to investing in leaders and managers. 

Applications for the next programme are now open and we are seeking forward-thinking, health and social care employers to host the next generation of leaders in health and social care.

Since its launch in 2009, our Graduate Management programme has seen over 120 graduates complete the programme which has been developed in partnership with the NHS Leadership Academy.  As a host employer you gain an enthusiastic, innovative and ambitious full-time team member who has the right attitude and values for a career in care. Graduates can inject new ideas into an organisation, have the ability to adapt to change and can also increase diversity within the workforce.

John Exton, Business Development Manager, Future Directions said: “Emily was able to offer other perspectives on service delivery and design, coming up with lots of creative ideas which have been factored into service improvements.” In the case of Future Directions, they gained a passionate and committed graduate who fitted so well into the organisation that they gave her a permanent role at the end of the programme.
