Linking communities this Care Home Open Day

Posted on Tuesday 3rd April 2018

We’re supporting Care Home Open Day on Saturday 21 April 2018, to encourage more care homes to open their doors and build links with their local communities. We know that care homes do great work all year round, and this is the one day where you can celebrate this with people in your community.

You can get involved by organising a fun activity and inviting local people to come along, for example an afternoon tea, entertainment, lunch or sporting event.

This year’s theme is ‘linking communities’ and encourages you to build links with local people, schools, groups and businesses.

It’s a great opportunity to show local people that care homes are filled with unique, intelligent and charming characters, and are run by people who really care. Meeting new people can also enrich the lives of your residents. It can help you advertise your care home to potential customers and showcase your organisation as a great place to work.

Have a look on the Care Home Open Day website and register your event so people can find you.

You should also advertise your event locally – for example you could send a letter or poster to local schools, groups and businesses such as shops and doctors surgeries. You can download templates from the ‘Resources for care homes’ section of the website.

Make sure you join in on Twitter and tell us what you’re doing using @CareHomeOpenDay and #CHOD2018 – copy @skillsforcare in and we’ll retweet as many posts as we can.

Want to do more?

If you want to do more to build links with your local community, I Care…Ambassadors can help.

Adult social care employers can join the I Care…Ambassadors initiative and register enthusiastic staff to become ambassadors who deliver careers activities in the community. When you join your details are added to our online Search Register which is accessed by hundreds of people every month – including teachers, careers advisors and other community groups.

You’ll also get access to our Resources Bank which has activity ideas and templates to help you promote your organisation.
