Is 2019 your time to shine?
If you employ your own personal assistants (PAs) and are committed to their learning and development, enter this years’ Accolades awards and get recognised for the great work you and they do.
If you work with individual employers who are doing a great job, nominate them for the Accolades 2019 or encourage them to enter themselves.
What is the Accolades?
The Accolade awards recognises the achievements of individual employers who can show an effective approach to developing their PAs.
There’s a dedicated category for you called the ‘Best individual who employs their own care and support.’
You can also be nominated by other people such as your PAs or someone from a user led organisation.
Why should you enter the Accolades?
Entering these awards is a great way to recognise and celebrate the hard work you and your PAs do every day. And if you get through to the final stage, you will be invited to our celebration event with your PAs – which can really boost their morale and confidence.
When you apply we want you to tell us why you’re a good employer and all the great things you do to recruit, manage and train your PAs, so that you can live the life you want.
Christina Candey won last year’s Accolade and she said:
“What a thrill to attend the glamorous evening where we were all left feeling honoured to be part of a big team working together.
Personally, I’m over the moon to have won Best individual who employs their own care and support staff category. This has given my team and I real boost and the encouragement to keep pulling together by working, learning and communicating well to make a happy work place.”
Our judging panel were impressed by Christina’s dedication and passion to being a good employer. They said:
“Christina has herself completed lots of training that have supported her and enabled her to be a ‘good employer’. She wants to inspire other individual employers to get as much training and support as possible, so that they can strive to be good employers.
She is also aware of how important training is to her PA’s and makes sure they get the maximum training they can access. She has learnt how important it is to take on the right PA who can support her and make sure her individual needs are met.
She has learned from her own training sessions that her disability does not define her, she has an active and full life that her PA’s support her to fulfil. Making sure they are well supported and trained allows Christina to meet her own personal aspirations.”
Nominate someone for an Accolade
If you work with or support individual employers, you can nominate them for an Accolade too or encourage them to apply themselves. This is a great way to remind them and their team of all the hard work they do, and it can help us all raise the profile of individual employers and PAs.
- Nominations and entries close on Friday 07 September 2018 at 5pm.
- During October and November someone will come and visit you to verify your application.
- You’ll find out whether you’re shortlisted as finalists in December 2018.
- The winners will be announced at a gala event in London on 31 January 2019, which you and your PAs are invited to.
