Receive funding to support your newly qualified social workers

We can provide funding to support newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) complete the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE).

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has confirmed grant funding support for the ASYE in adult services for 2019-20.

The level of funding is a fixed ‘pot’ of money to be distributed and disbursal will be based on a formula that takes into account the number of social workers employed by the agency and the number of NQSWs registered.

As in previous years, employers will be required to provide evidence of their membership of an external moderation partnership when they submit their pre-registration application form and employers are also required to comply with requests for the submission of evidence to the national moderation panel.

The pre-registration application process is open. Please note that this process does not require you to access the funding portal. The pre-registration form can be downloaded here. It should be completed and submitted back to adultsASYE@skillsforcare.org.uk.

Key dates for the 2019-20 funding process, for NQSWs starting their ASYE from 1 February 2019, are as follows:

  • The original deadline for receipt of pre-registration application forms for local authorities/NHS/community interest companies/social enterprise employers was Friday 5 July 2019. Considering the delay in confirmation of funding, we've taken the decision to extend the pre-registration phase by two weeks, so the new deadline is Friday 19 July 2019.
  • For small private and voluntary employers the deadline for receipt of pre-registration applications remains Friday 10 January 2020.
  • The online portal for officially registering NQSWs for funding will open on Monday 22 July 2019 and will remain open until Friday 31 January 2020. Please note that any NQSWs not on the system after this deadline, will not be eligible for funding in 2019-20.

FAQs are available and guidance on how to complete your application will be available soon. If you have any questions or need further information please email us.

How do I claim an ASYE certificate?

Skills for Care is now issuing ASYE certificates to employers for newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) in adults services. The Skills for Care certificates will look slightly different to the previous certificates but the process for issuing the certificates will remain the same.

In order to claim a certificate, employers will need to update the NQSW record on the portal with the date of completion of the ASYE. Guidance on how to update the portal is available. If you have any questions please email adultsASYE@skillsforcare.org.uk.
