Recruitment planning

Understanding your business needs, planning your recruitment will help you to recruit and retain people with the right values.

A workforce plan is a great way to do this as it helps you to assess your current and future staff requirements.

Over half of employers we spoke to with a turnover rate of less than 10% had a workforce plan, which helps them to act strategically rather than reactively, target the right people with the right values, skills and behaviours, build on what they know works well and support staff development.

We conducted research with social care organisations with a turnover of less than 10% to see how they successfully recruit and retain staff.

Some of their ‘secrets of success’ include recruiting people with the right values and behaviours, who are more likely to stay, understanding your local area to inform business planning, using innovative strategies to attract candidates from the local community and offering quality training, positive working conditions, flexible working and competitive pay rates.
