A nursing associate (NA) is a new member of the nursing team in England. This role is designed to help bridge the gap between health and care workers and registered nurses (RN).

 

This guidance is aimed at

  • Employers - strengthen the understanding of how the role can fit into your organisation and the relationship between a nursing associate and a registered nurse, as well as the differences in their responsibilities. 
  • Commissioners - learn how the role can fit into different organisations and settings, which in turn will enable you to support providers in the design of the workforce. 
  • Nursing associates - explore the communication and relationship management skills expected of a nursing associate working in social care while understanding of the procedures that need to be undertaken.
