Develop yourself as a leader

Bame Event - Black and White -Website

As a registered manager it's extremely important that you are supported to develop your leadership skills. The way you lead your organisation has a direct impact on the culture of your organisation and the quality of care you're providing.

Leadership development is also important if you want to progress into senior positions in social care, whether you're from a private, public or voluntary sector organisation. For your own personal development and for the ongoing development of the staff you manage, it's important that you have highly developed leadership skills.

Skills for Care have a number of development programmes designed to help you lead in a strategic and empowered way.

Our leadership programmes are perfect for registered managers who want to develop their leadership skills and learn alongside their peers. If you're a member of the National Skills Academy for Social Care, which costs just £35 a year, you'll get discount on some of our programmes.

We're currently reruiting registered managers onto the following leadership development prorammes.

A major new programme commencing in 2016/2017 for managers and leaders of adult care services. The Skills for Care Well-led programme is grounded in the reality of social care delivery and provides the opportunity to develop your leadership skills, make valuable advances in your service and have real impact in your workplace.

You’ll find out what managers of well-led organisations do to achieve and sustain high standards of leadership and learn how to apply these examples across your own organisation to deliver high quality, person-centred care.

This development programme is made up of a series of practical workshops designed to empower leaders to deliver care in line with the expectations of a ‘Well-led’ service. This programme has been designed in partnership with registered managers familiar with the day-to-day challenges of leading a care team.

In order to provide high quality, person-centred care it’s important that the leadership workforce in adult social care reflects the diversity of the communities it supports. With only four of the 152 directors of adult social care services in the UK (and just 2.5% of NHS chief executives and chairs in London) coming from a black, Asian or minority ethnic background, there is a clear need to address the lack of diversity among those in senior positions across care services.

Skills for Care’s Moving Up programme supports and develops managers who are aspiring to work in senior leadership roles and are from a black, Asian or minority ethnic background. Its aim is to build the capacity for a more representative workforce of social care leaders that better reflects the diverse society we live in.

This programme is £850 plus VAT for members of the National Skills Academy for Social Care and £1,000 plus VAT for non-members.
