Overview
This event is looking to cover:
- Fundamentals of oral health - what is it and how can we achieve it for ourselves and those we care for
- Implications of poor oral health - links between oral health and systemic disease (to include info about poor nutrition, hydration, Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (HAP), Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP), etc here)
- Practical mouth care tips - how to care for someone else’s teeth and oral health (including toothbrushing, useful tools and products, dry mouth care, care resistant behaviours and how to manage them)
- Mouth care at the End Of Life (EOL) - how does it differ from the above advice and how can we support people at the end of life and their loved ones?
Outcomes
The event will in short:
- Highlight the importance of effective mouthcare in reducing wider health risks, and in supporting good hydration and nutrition, social confidence, and overall wellbeing.
- Position mouthcare within the wider NHS prevention and health promotion agenda.
- Provide practical training on how to deliver and promote good mouthcare.
- Understand how NICE oral health guidance and supporting tools and resources can be used to strengthen prevention, improve outcomes, and support consistent, high-quality mouth care in practice.
