These frameworks set out nationally agreed learning outcomes and capability statements to help ensure training is relevant, up to date and aligned to current practice.
Mental Health Core Capabilities Framework
The updated Mental Health Core Capabilities Framework supports the design, delivery and commissioning of mental health education and training across health and social care.
The framework has undergone a full review to ensure the language, terminology and expectations reflect current practice. Outdated content has been removed, relevant sections refreshed and external references updated to ensure organisations can access reliable and current guidance. The framework remains a practical tool for developing training, assessing competence and supporting capability-building across the sectors.
Use of the framework will support organisations to:
- standardise the interpretation of mental health education and learning
- guide the focus and aims of mental health education and learning delivery
- support consistency of qualifications and quality assurance for mental health education and learning
- ensure the educational relevance of mental health training
- improve the quality and consistency of education and training provision.
It is particularly relevant for learning and development practitioners, registered managers, commissioners and awarding organisations who design, procure or quality assure mental health training.

Dementia Training Standards Framework
The updated Dementia Training Standards Framework provides a clear structure for dementia education and training across health and social care.
Following a full review, the framework has been refreshed to reflect current language and best practice. Content has been streamlined, with outdated information removed and external references updated. It continues to provide a practical framework for developing training, assessing competence and supporting workforce capability.
Use of the framework will support organisations to:
- standardise the interpretation of dementia education and learning
- guide the focus and aims of dementia education and learning delivery
- support consistency of qualifications and quality assurance for dementia education and learning
- ensure the educational relevance of dementia training
- improve the quality and consistency of education and training provision.
