Students are immersed in person-centred, relationship-based care. They develop communication skills, build trust, understand families, and see the realities of long-term conditions such as dementia and frailty in a way that simply isn’t possible in short hospital stays.
What’s striking is that almost all of them say the same thing, they’re genuinely surprised by what we do in social care.
They come in with one perception but leave with a completely different understanding of the complexity, responsibility, and skill involved in delivering high-quality care in this setting.
