Protected characteristics and ASYE success

For the third year running we’ve analysed data from the ASYE portal to understand whether failure and pass rates are affected by protected characteristics of newly qualified social workers.  

Key findings show:

  • gender, ethnicity and number of deferrals are still factors in whether someone is likely to fail the ASYE
  • disparity between pass and fail rates caused by ethnicity is reducing
  • failure rates remain marginal.


Sharing what works in delivering the ASYE programme

The sector has frequently asked for examples of good practice in the delivery of the ASYE programme. Developing a bank of good practice resources that organisations can draw on in developing their programmes relies on organisations being willing to share its good practice. If this is something you’d like to do, you need to apply to the national quality assurance panel for the endorsement of the good practice.

Child and family ASYE annual report 2022-23

Every year we produce a report for the Department of Education about child and family ASYE. The most recent annual report and is now available to download from our website. It covers April 2022-March 2023 and focuses on ASYE activity undertaken during this time. The report is drawn on evidence from the quality assurance meetings, 360-degree evaluation tool data, portal data, action learning sets, feedback from national forums and events.  

Key themes include a continued focus on equality, diversity and inclusion on ASYE programmes, the importance of investing in the ASYE and developing assessor quality.
