Overview

This workshop is designed to equip experienced social care nursing staff with the confidence and tools to provide preceptorship leadership within your organisation.

Nursing preceptorship is a structured period of support for newly registered nurses and nursing associates (preceptees) as they transition into their professional roles.

It aims to uses the existing knowledge and skills of your experienced nursing staff to provide preceptorship leadership and act as preceptors.

By implementing a preceptorship programme within your organisation, you create a smooth transition into the workforce, promoting safe, effective, and confident practice that provides a sense of belonging and professional identity. 

What to expect

You'll engage in helpful discussions and activities exploring how to measure the impact of the preceptorship programme in your organisation.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:

  • Access helpful resources supporting you to implement a preceptorship programme for your organisation.
  • Consider what ongoing support you’ll need to carry out the preceptorship lead role moving forward.
  • Develop and implement a preceptorship policy for your organisation.
  • Evaluate the impact of a preceptorship programme.
  • Link to community of practice for preceptorship leads offered by Skills for Care.
  • You’ll also receive a certificate of attendance.

Who should attend

  • Nursing staff with more than 12 months' experience or who have completed a period of preceptorship themselves.
  • You’ll provide support to preceptors and preceptees and network with other preceptorship leads to embed the principles of preceptorship within your area.
  • Those currently acting as a preceptorship lead or similar are also welcome to attend.
