This #GoodNewsFriday we share how residents at a care home took on a walking challenge.

To celebrate this year’s National Walking Month, residents at The Lawn, the Alton-based residential care home run by charity, Friends of the Elderly have had a ‘toe-tally’ great time walking and strolling around the care home’s beautiful grounds to reach their 1,000 steps goal.

The residents enjoy regular exercise classes, and this challenge was an exciting opportunity to partake in a fun, motivating and achieveable challenge.

Everyone at the care home decided to take part in the challenge of walking 1,000 steps over the day. This number of steps was decided on as its takes 1,000 steps to walk the foot map of the grounds.

On the day the residents wasted no time in getting started and putting their best foot forward.

Steve Swift, the Registered Manager at The Lawn said:

It was a beautiful, sunny day and the residents really loved being outside in the fresh air, catching the rays. Whilst they enjoyed their walks and strolls, the residents spoke and reminisced about different hikes, rambles and treks they’d undertaken in the past and even stopped to admire the flowers, plants and visiting birds they noticed on the route around the grounds.
