Skills for Care’s popular Moving Up programme supporting Black and Asian leaders returns for 2027
Skills for Care has opened registrations for its popular Moving Up programme in 2027, starting on 13 January.
Designed to support aspiring and new managers from a Black and Asian background in adult social care, Moving Up helps participants build the confidence, skills and networks needed to progress their leadership careers.
Aimed at current and aspiring Black and Asian leaders working across adult social care and health, the programme is open to people at all levels, in all roles and across all types of organisations. Previous participants have included professionals from local government, social care providers, commissioning organisations, charities, the voluntary sector, nursing and occupational health.
Running for over a decade, Moving Up has supported hundreds of leaders to develop their leadership capability and take the next step in their careers. The programme was created to provide opportunities and support for global majority professionals who want to fulfil their career ambitions and progress into leadership roles.
Combining self-directed learning with live online workshops, the programme helps participants strengthen their leadership skills, understand and develop their personal brand, increase their confidence and self-belief, and build valuable professional networks. Participants will also have opportunities to learn from peers, share experiences and explore practical techniques for overcoming challenges and barriers to career progression.
Tony Barker, Programme Lead - Workforce Learning and Development, Skills for Care, said:
We're delighted to be running the Moving Up programme again this year and opening registrations for our latest cohort in 2027. For more than a decade we've seen the difference the programme can make to people's confidence, leadership skills and career progression. We know that diverse leadership strengthens organisations and helps create inclusive workplaces where everyone can thrive. Moving Up gives global majority leaders the opportunity to invest in their development, build supportive networks and gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to take the next step in their careers. Ultimately, that benefits not only the individual, but the people they lead, their organisations and the wider adult social care sector.
Previous Moving Up participant Vhenekayi Nyambayo, said:
One of the best leadership and training programmes I’ve done in my career. We had a safe and supportive space for real conversations and personal development through this leadership and management programme. The support and delivery by the facilitators and programme lead were second to none.
Places are limited and registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Subject to eligibility adult social care providers can claim funding towards the cost of the programme through the Adult Social Care Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS).
Those interested in joining the programme can find out more and register through the Skills for Care website.
