  • Good news story

Over the Christmas and New Year period we’re sharing some additional good news stories from the sector in 2023. This time we hear about a special celebration and awards event organised by Barnet Council.

Following Skills for Care’s #CelebratingSocialCare campaign in April this year, in May the Barnet Care Quality Team organised an event for registered managers to acknowledge and share some of the excellent work, achievements and positive outcomes that have taken place over the last year.

Councillor Paul Edwards presented each of the winners with a certificate and voucher to mark their impressive achievements.

Registered Manager Network chairs were also presented with certificates to thank them for the support they’ve provided other managers in the borough.

The event opened with John Hooton, Chief Executive Barnet Council and Councillor Paul Edwards welcoming the group and thanking the attendees for their work and commitment to providing quality care services.

This was followed by an update from Martin Haines and Joe Culleton, CQC Area Managers, detailing the structure and inspection changes being implemented this year.

Sam Jacobson, Head of Integrated Care Quality and Customer Finance, also spoke to the group about the recent Care Quality restructure, newly created posts and the areas prioritised for work over the coming year.

Skills for Care Locality Manager, Laura Anthony, provided information about the on-going support on offer to registered managers and care organisations. She also acknowledged the work of the four out-going Barnet Registered Managers Network Chairs. They were presented with certificates to recognise the work they have undertaken to support their peers.

The culmination of the event was the presentation of ten Barnet Care Awards for staff working in provider settings.

John Hooton, Chief Executive Barnet Council, said:

As the care sector is one of the most significant employers in Barnet, we would like to thank all our partners, care homes, care workers and registered managers for the incredible work they are doing for the people in the borough. The work that you do is vital in ensuring that this sector continues to thrive and support all our residents in Barnet.
