Oonagh Smyth, CEO, Skills for Care shares more about our new learning platform, The Training Hub by Skills for Care.

I’m incredibly proud to be introducing The Training Hub by Skills for Care, our new online learning offer designed specifically to support the adult social care workforce.

This launch is an exciting development for us, but more importantly, it’s a direct response to what the sector has been telling us they need - training that feels relevant to their day-to-day roles, easy to access, and grounded in what good care really looks like.

At Skills for Care, our focus has always been on building a workforce that’s skilled, confident and supported. For more than 25 years, we’ve worked alongside employers, government and regulators to help define what Good and Outstanding care looks like. That means we understand both the standards the sector works to and the real challenges people face on the ground.

We’re launching with an initial set of courses, with lots more to come over the next few months building out into our full offer.

Our training is built on the same foundations as the standards we help develop for the sector. It’s designed to reflect real practice and support people to deliver safe, compassionate and effective care.

And, as a charity, every penny we generate through The Training Hub is reinvested back into supporting the social care sector.

We know that investing in learning and development makes a real difference – not just to individuals, but to people drawing on care. Our data show that care workers who receive training are more likely to stay in their roles. In fact, turnover is 5.3 percentage points lower among those who have had some form of training compared to those who haven’t. And the more opportunities people have to learn, the more likely they are to stay, with turnover dropping even further among those who access training regularly.

That stability matters. It helps build stronger teams, improves continuity of care, and supports better outcomes for people who draw on care and support.

That’s ultimately what The Training Hub is about. It’s about giving people the tools, knowledge and confidence they need to do their jobs well, and to feel proud of the work they do.

This is just the start. We’ll continue to develop and expand the offer over time, listening to feedback and making sure it continues to meet the needs of the sector.

The Training Hub is a practical way we can support care organisations to invest in their teams, build stronger workforces, and ultimately deliver better care.
