It's #GoodNewsFriday. This week we hear about Spellman Care's most recent Veterans Cafe held at Steeton House.
Spellman Care have been hosting monthly Veterans Cafes across their care homes.
Their fifth event was held at Steeton Court Nursing Home and brought together veterans, community members, and special guests for an afternoon of camaraderie and connection.
The event was honoured by the presence of Robbie Moore MP and the enthusiastic Keighley Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets. Residents from across the four Spellman Care homes thoroughly enjoyed engaging in lively conversations with their local MP and learning more about the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
A particular highlight of the cafe was the interactive session led by the cadets, who generously taught some of the residents how to tie various naval knots. This proved to be a delightful activity for all involved, with both cadets and residents thoroughly enjoying the hands-on experience and the shared learning opportunity.
Caroline Cowland, Steeton Court’s Home Manager said:
These cafes are always so special, bringing our community together and creating wonderful memories. It truly warmed our hearts to see everyone enjoying themselves and connecting, whether it was through a shared laugh over a tricky knot or simply enjoying the fantastic food and company.
The Veterans Cafe series continues to be a cherished initiative, dedicated to fostering community spirit and providing a welcoming space for veterans and their families.
Each month, the cafe grows and improves as it's hosted by a different one of the Spellman Care homes, bringing fresh perspectives and unique touches to each gathering.
The next cafe is already eagerly anticipated and will take place on 19 June at Ghyll Royd Care Home. This special event will also mark the Leeds Armed Forces Festival and Care Home Open Week, making it an even more significant occasion for the community.
The Veterans Cafes are always open to all and continue to grow in popularity, offering a perfect opportunity for members of the community to enjoy some camaraderie, socialisation, and good food.
