Activity and Wellbeing Coordinator Forums in Frimley and South East Hampshire are supporting activity and wellbeing coordinators in the area.

The Activity and Wellbeing Coordinator Forums in Frimley and South East Hampshire, were first developed in 2019, starting with the Frimley Activity and Coordinator Champions Forum which expanded to form a second group, the SE Hampshire Activity Coordinator Group.

The aim of the forums is to support continuing professional development for activity and wellbeing coordinators, and to create an opportunity to share and exchange ideas and resources.

As well as supporting their own professional development, the forums aim to support a focus on person-centred care for people drawing on care and support and provide a space to explore knowledge and research to continue driving quality.

The development of the forums was led by Debbie Boys, Locality Manager for Skills for Care and Sue Langan, Care Home Quality Lead, NHS Frimley.

At each meeting the group covers challenges and successes and discuss two key themes and resources to support that topic. The meetings take place approximately every two months, and have included a mixture of face-to-face and virtual meetings.

The discussions aim to link practice and theory. Topics that have been discussed at previous meetings have included sensory activities, community engagement, end of life care, and wellbeing.

Each forum has associated resources linked to CQC outcomes, evidenced based practice and examples.

Guest speakers including nurses, occupational therapists, and representatives from CQC and Skills for Care have joined meetings.

Attendees of the forums have shared some great feedback, including:

I learnt loads and have come away feeling energised.

This training has given me a lot of ideas to support to the needs of the resident’s wellbeing. To be able to fulfil the quality of life they deserve.

I think you have started something amazing with this new group. I’m sure it will go from strength to strength.
