Skills for Care CEO Oonagh Smyth said:

“The Department of Health and Social Care’s COVID-19 Winter Plan released on Friday sets out how they intend to support employers to fight the virus in the coming months. We will continue to work with the department and our partners to help the sector with rapid induction for new recruits, our locality teams continue to work closely with over 150 registered managers networks that offer vital peer to peer support to this key group workers and supporting the new Chief Nursing Officer for social care to promote the vital role nurses play in delivering quality care.

“Skills for Care is also developing a new digital module on conducting learning reviews commissioned by DHSC, and will be offering advice on how care workers can be supported to take on tasks that have been delegated to them due to lockdown restrictions.

“We also want to thank David Pearson and his COVID-19 support taskforce who have worked hard in a very short timeframe to offer a series of practical and strategic recommendations based on learning from the first phase of the pandemic. As part of the workforce advisory group of this taskforce we were able to make sure the outstanding contribution of 1.5 million care workers in fighting the pandemic was acknowledged, and it is important that the taskforce’s recommendations are implemented as soon as possible.”
