This #GoodNewsFriday we hear how homecare provider CCH Group has helped raise £40,000 for charities by sponsoring a grassroots football league made up entirely of volunteer players.

The Charity Football League has been running for two years in the North East, bringing together six local teams who play not for profit but to benefit their communities.

The 2025 season concluded on 12 October, when The Geordies secured a last-minute goal to lift the trophy in the league final.

Funds raised through the competition have supported YMCA North Tyneside, Caring Hands, Tiny Lives Trust, Maggie’s Newcastle, and Tyneside and Northumberland Mind.

Wendy McCall, Managing Director of Homecare at CCH, said:

The Geordies played brilliantly, but the real triumph here is the fundraising that will make such a difference to charities in the region. CCH is the UK’s largest homecare provider, but our strength comes from colleagues on the ground, embedded in towns and cities and working every day for the benefit of local people. They are the ones who bring our values to life, and it is a privilege to stand alongside them in supporting causes that matter deeply to the communities they serve.

League Secretary Gareth Horsley added:

This year’s final was the perfect ending to an incredible season. The standard of football has been fantastic, but what really stands out is the generosity of everyone involved. To raise £40,000 for local charities in two years is something the whole region can be proud of, and we’re especially grateful to CCH for their sponsorship and support in making it all possible.

By sponsoring the Charity Football League, CCH has shown how a national care provider can use its scale to support community initiatives and make a real difference to people’s lives.
