Skills for Care is helping social care providers #RecruitRight this May

This May, Skills for Care is providing practical guidance, expert insights, tools and seminars to help social care providers recruit the right people.

Skills for Care's latest campaign aims to help employers build more diverse workforces, understand how to use values-based recruitment approaches and create welcoming environments that make people want to stay.

The Workforce Strategy for Adult Social Care highlights the need to improve our approach to recruiting people and the importance of attracting a more diverse workforce and building great working environments that retain staff.

Our ASC-WDS data shows that recruitment remains one of the sectors biggest challenges. The combined number of total posts (filled and vacant posts) in adult social care in England in 2023/24 stood at 1.84 million, with 131,000 vacancies. We estimate that the turnover rate of staff working in the adult social care sector was 24.2% during this period.

Through approaches like values-based recruitment, we can make sure we’re introducing the right people to our sector and avoid workforce shortages. And, by creating the best possible conditions for our workforce, we can make sure people want to remain in social care long term.
