Overview

This session is a gentle and honest space for commissioners to explore what anti-racism really means in co-production, and why it matters so much for the people and communities you work with. We’ll look at real experiences shared in a recent study and discuss how racism can quietly shape decisions, even when everyone has the best intentions. The session will help you feel more confident, clearer, and more connected to the voices that are too often overlooked.

In the session, you can expect simple conversations, practical ideas, and a chance to reflect on your own role as a commissioner. We’ll explore what it means to centre racialised voices, how to move away from tokenism, and the small shifts that can make commissioning more equal. You’ll leave with a clearer sense of what good anti-racist co-production practice looks like and how you can play your part in making it happen.

Key speakers

The session will be guided by Hania Tayara from the Co-Production Collective. She brings a warm, grounded approach shaped by years of community work, helping people feel seen and heard. With a background in social justice, science communication, and supporting refugee and migrant young people, she understands how power can show up and how to create spaces where people feel safe to speak honestly.

Joining her will be Isaac Samuels, who co-led the study and brings deep lived experience alongside a huge commitment to making co-production fairer, kinder, and more truthful. Together, they create a space that feels welcoming, open, and real.
