Following the launch of the ‘Strategy to see social care as a placement of choice for all student nurses and nursing associates’, we’re hosting a national face to face event which offers further opportunities to look at how we can meet the recommendations within it.
Social Care as a Nursing Placement of Choice:
Embedding the strategy
Date: Tuesday 11 November 2025
Time: 9:30 - 15:30
Location: University in the Midlands (exact venue TBC)
Registration closes 17:00 on Wednesday 5 November 2025.
Overview
This event will explore the recommendations of the placement strategy in more depth and provide an opportunity to hear from education providers who are working to include social care within their curriculum and practice learning approaches. Care providers will also provide helpful insights into their own experiences of working collaboratively with education providers and hosting students.
What to expect
- You’ll hear from keynote speakers Deborah Sturdy (Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care), Ed Hughes (CEO, Council of Deans of Health) and Paul Rees CEO NMC.
- Two panel discussions offering important perspectives:
- Education providers representing universities and colleges will share their approaches to practice learning and social care within their curriculum.
- Care providers who are supporting or currently hosting student placements sharing their experiences. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions in advance of the day that may be suitable for each panel.
- Opportunities to network and collaborate and consider the recommendations of the strategy and how these can be achieved.
- In recognition of this event taking place on Remembrance Day, an example of social care practice learning will be explored. Students from the University of Wolverhampton will participate in a mini social care project exploring the Veteran Friendly Framework for care homes. They’ll share their findings and what they’ve gained as a result of taking part alongside leading the two minute silence of reflection in recognition of our veterans.
