Why learning and development matters

Throughout January and February, we’re shining our spotlight on how you can #KeepLearning and why ongoing learning and development is important for everyone working in adult social care.

Investing in learning and development is key for an organisation’s success. It develops skills and knowledge, supports better staff retention and helps to develop effective managers for now and the future, which ultimately supports better quality care and support.

This campaign will support managers and their teams to #KeepLearning by showcasing the learning and development opportunities available in 2024 and highlighting the real benefits of continuous learning.

Staff at all levels, including leaders and mangers, should have the opportunity to access learning and development if the highest standards of quality in social care are to be met and maintained across the sector.

Our data also shows that the average turnover rates decreased from 37% among staff who had no qualifications to 26.5% among those that had a qualification. The average turnover rate was 9.0 percentage points lower amongst care workers who had received some form of training (31.6%), compared to those who had not (40.6%).
