We hear from the director of My Way Care about how the eLearning module developed by All Our Health has benefited them
I first found out about the ‘Ten public health tips’ eLearning module from a member of the Skills for Care team.
The module is tailored specifically for people who work in adult social care, and provides 10 adult social care public health tips with an underlying theme of prevention.
The training forms one of the 56 recommendations in the national Workforce Strategy for Adult Social Care in England, and for registered providers, this module also supports evidence for the CQC Single Assessment Framework under Effective – Supporting people to live healthier lives.
I found the module informative, engaging and practical. I liked that there were scenarios which were realistic and showed things from a different and new perspective.
The module has helped strengthen my confidence in supporting both staff and people we support to make positive choices around health and wellbeing. It provided clear, evidence-based guidance on key public health priorities.
For me the key takeaway from this module has been how the guidance from the 10 top tips can be embedded into everyday care practice to promote prevention, wellbeing and independence for the people we support. It really highlights that health promotion and prevention isn’t just for clinical staff, everyone in adult social care has a role to play in helping people live well for longer.
As a home care manager, I can see clear benefits in using this guidance to upskill our team. For example, encouraging care staff to have confident, informal conversations about staying active, eating well, staying connected and keeping up with health checks can make a big difference to service users long-term wellbeing.
The module provides staff with practical advice and useful resources that can be applied across different care settings and is a great way to ensure everyone feels more confident in promoting health and wellbeing as part of our daily work. It will also be a useful module for new-starters, and works well alongside our standard and mandatory training.
